UVA earned its first national championship in men’s basketball in 2019, but we wanted to tip our caps to a team that helped build their foundation as a basketball powerhouse. The 1983-84 Cavaliers were unranked through the regular season, and had a losing record in the ACC. At the 1984 NCAA Tournament, however, Virginia didn’t relent – after beating Iona in the first round, the team defeated ranked opponents Arkansas, Syracuse and Indiana.
